Rumina decollata is a predacious snail that feeds on its own cousin, the brown garden snail. The Decollate snail is smaller than the garden snail and has a cone shaped shell. It does not climb as well as the garden snail, but prefers to burrow in the soil in search of snail eggs. Although this predatory snail works when established, it can take years for that to take place. Be cautious with the use of snail bait, it can wipe out a population of Decollates which were providing some control of garden snails.
